Spinner Card

Warning: I only made one card but this post is picture heavy. I fell in love with spinner cards!

For this week's Make It Monday, over at Nichole Heady's Papertrey Ink blog, Lizzie Jones is showing us how simple it is to make a spinner card. I had never even heard of these things, but after watching the video and seeing just how easy it was I knew I was doing it.

A couple of weeks I asked my 7 year old grandson, whose birthday is on February 15th, if he'd like me to make the Valentine cards for his classmates this year. I proposed a photo souvenir, of himself, with lots of ribbons and flowers and girly stuff and, much to my surprise, he turned down my offer. But I thought that maybe he just couldn't quite picture it in his mind and decided that a prototype would help clear things up ...

I ended up making a double sided spinner; one side of the spinning heart says "Be Mine!" and the other ...

sports a pic that I captured of Léo recently at the hockey arena, sending me a kiss. Here's a better look at the card, flat ...

I had a hurried-up photo taking session this afternoon because I was on my way out the door to yet another hockey match, but I think you get the idea. Girly ideas include a glittered cream heart frame (which doesn't show up in the pics at all :( and the red foiled "be mine" sentiment. Plus the flowers. I decided to finish things off by making a matching pocket envelope for it ...

My intention is for Léo to give one of these to each of his classmates ...

and to present it to them all wrapped up in a bow (of course) ...

Can't wait to see Léo's reaction when I show him the prototype. At this afternoon's game I mentioned to him that I was working on his Valentines and he had this to say to me - "Je m'en fous" (I don't care) - but that might have been because he was busy playing with my iPhone. I imagine that he'll go nuts for it when he sees it in person. :) If he doesn't, then I'm secretly sending it to his English teacher. That he would really appreciate, LOL.

And just wait until you see the spinner card I'm working on for DH's valentine!!!

Inspired By All The Little Things

I had decided to play along this week with Inspired By All The Little Things, the first time ever for me, and wouldn't you know I chose a "difficult" one - a white flower!!! But a challenge should be a challenge, and the Design Team came up with inspiring ideas, and so I continued and this is what I finished with ...

Paper: PTI Stamper's Select White, Vintage Cream card. Stamps/Dies: PTI Spring Woods, One Big Happy. Inks: Altenew Evening Gray, Jet Black; PTI Pale Peony, Fine Linen, Vintage Cream, Autumn Rose, Dark Chocolate, New Leaf; Tim Holtz Distress Inks Milled Lavender, Shaded Lilac, Dusty Concord, Hickory Smoke.

I did some ink blending in the background to try and capture that beautiful sky in the inspiration photo. I don't think I quite succeeded with the lovely white bloom but I had lots of fun trying. Thanks for that.

Lots of Hugs

Photo from Julie Baerwald

And that, folks, is the inspiration for this month's customer blog hop, over at Nichole Heady's Papertrey Ink blog. I do believe and hope that this photo has brought my creative slump to an end. If there was more time in a day I'm sure I could have easily made 100 different cards based on it! 😮 I never even got the chance to make a card with ruled paper, my favourite cookie in the bunch. But I did manage to make five and they all have one element in common ...

Can you see what it is? I think it would be pretty hard to miss that great big red Hugs! The first card is probably the most cookieish ...

Paper: PTI Stamper's Select White, True Black, Pure Poppy, Limeade Ice. Stamps: PTI Rosie Posie, Rosie Posie Step 2, Bold Bouquet, Embellished Elegance. Inks: PTI Hibiscus Burst, Raspberry Fizz, Pure Poppy, Limeade Ice, Aqua Mist, Green Parakeet. Dies: PTI Comic Strip  Cover Plate, Big Hugs, Rosie Posie, Bold Bouquet, Embellished Elegance.
Then I moved away from the flowers and just went with the colours from the inspiration photo ...

Paper: PTI True Black, Smokey Shadow, Pure Poppy. Stamps: PTI Big Hugs. Inks: Versamark. Dies: PTI Big Hugs, Comic Strip Cover Plate, Make It Market Shakers & Sprinkles kit. Other: SSS Detail White embossing powder.

I'm really liking this one because it's graphic and perfect for a masculine card!  😎 Especially good for a Latin lover (DH is French Canadian so I think he qualifies). with all that black, and a red silk lining, it looks like it's getting ready to dance a flamenco!

For the next one I reversed the sentiment block from the card above and made another, more flowery one ...

Paper: PTI Stamper's Select White, Smokey Shadow, Pure Poppy, True Black. Stamps: PTI Big Hugs, Make It Market Don't Forget To Write kit. Inks: PTI Hibiscus Burst, Raspberry Fizz, Pure Poppy, Green Parakeet, Limeade Ice; Altenew Jet Black, Evergreen. Dies: PTI Big Hugs, Comic Strip Cover Plate, Make it Market Don't Forget To Write kit; Lil Inkers Stitched  Rectangles.
The next is again a very clean, simple, masculine type card. If you were hoping I wouldn't do any foiling for this Hop, you'll be disappointed 😀 . I went with a tone-on-tone look so it's very subtle and sophisticated in real life ...

Paper: PTI Smokey Shadow, Pure Poppy. Dies: PTI Big Hugs. Other: Heidi Swapp Minc machine; Therm-o-web Pewter Deco Foil; hp Laser Jet Pro.
And the last is maybe my favourite, just a lighthearted fun Valentine's card ...

Paper: PTI Stamper's Select White, True Black, Pure Poppy, Kraft. Stamps: PTI Big Hugs, Fresh Floral Wrap Ups; Concord & 9th Sophisticated Script. Inks: PTI Raspberry Fizz, Pure Poppy, New Leaf, Limeade Ice; Altenew Jet Black. Dies: PTI Big Hugs, Fresh Floral Wrap Ups; Lil Inkers Stitched Rectangles; Quickutz Hearts.
I had so much fun playing this week. On Monday I pulled out stamp sets I thought I wanted to use and just stamped away all day using colours from the photo. No real plan in mind. And then yesterday I started putting my cards together. I almost always start out with colour and then move on from there. Thanks, Nichole, for bringing my mojo back!

Masked Heart Wreaths

Despite the fact that my mojo is in the witness protection program, I forced myself to play along with this week's Make It Monday challenge. Over at Nichole Heady's Papertrey Ink blog Melissa Phillips is showing off her gorgeous cardmaking skills, which is always inspiring. I ended up making two cards ...

This is the first card that I made, early in the week. I wanted to stamp on Kraft card so I prepared it by ink blending some pigment inks onto the background, giving my dye inks something to sink into (and lightening the colours significantly) ...

Paper: PTI Kraft Classic, Sweet Blush. Stamps: PTI Nostalgic Notions, Embellished Elegance, Beautiful Brushstrokes Sentiments. Inks: Altenew Jet  Black; PTI Pure Poppy, New Leaf, Hibiscus Burst, Lovely Lady, Limeade Ice, Vintage Jadeite, Vintage Cream; Fresh Ink Sugar. Dies: PTI Noted: Scalloped A1, Noted: Scalloped A2 Vertical; Quickutz Hearts.

And then yesterday I decided I wasn't crazy about it and came up with this one ...

Paper: PTI Stamper's Select White, Berry Sorbet. Stamps: PTI Nostalgic Notions, Embellished Elegance, Beautiful Brushstrokes Sentiments. Ink: Altenew Jet Black; PTI Simply Chartreuse, Pale Peony, Lovely Lady, Pure Poppy, Berry Sorbet, Hibiscus Burst, Sweet Blush. Dies: PTI Noted: Scalloped A1.

I only took pics this morning and now I actually prefer the first one. 😜 Still don't "feel" like making cards. Don't even feel like doing any crafty shopping! I must be really sick. 😀

Ink blending over heat embossing

This week's Papertrey Ink Make It Monday challenge is à la carte! We get to play with any of the 2016 MIM videos/techniques that we might have missed. I participated in most of them, but there were a few I didn't have time for.

I chose to join in #243, ink blending over heat embossing, with Danielle Flanders, and this is the card I made ...

Paper: PTI Stamper's Select White. Stamps/Dies: PTI Swan'sational. Inks: PTI Hawaiian Shores, Dark Chocolate, Saffron Spice; Versamark; Altenew Jet Black; Tim Holtz Salty Ocean Distress. Other: SSS Detail White embossing powder; sequins, Copics.

I love ink blending so much. It's so easy to do and I think it adds such a nice touch. Thanks for another week of inspiring me, Papertrey Ink. The new year started off slow, but I'm getting back in the swing of things now.

Birthday Invitation

Sometimes I really surprise myself. Today I wanted to stamp a birthday invitation and discovered that I only have one, very lonely, balloon stamp. I make lots of birthday cards, I have a fair number of stamp and die sets (but not too many! still need lots more) and yet I only own one balloon reference. Huh!

I'm joining along with this week's CAS(E) this sketch! challenge, where we're playing with this cute sketch from Michele Ferguson ...

and here's my 4-bar sized invitation card ...

Paper: PTI Stamper's Select White. Stamps: PTI Birthday Style, Keep It Simple: You're Invited. Inks: Altenew: Jet Black; PTI Pale Peony, Lemon Tart, Mint Julep.  Dies: PTI Noted: Scalloped A1 die collection.
Very simple, but I kind of like it. I'm aiming to make more one layer cards this year, so I won't have any excuse to not mail them out. P.S. If you have a favourite birthday icon set, containing balloon images of course, please share! because apparently I'm in desperate need.

Black, Hot Pink & Green

Today I'm playing along in a new challenge, for me, the Color Throwdown! I've seen some beautiful creations on Instagram that were made for this week's challenge, CTD424, and I just couldn't resist the colour combo  ...

I die cut some pretty flowers and stamped away and ended up with this card ...

Paper: PTI Stamper's Select White; Crate Paper patterned paper. Stamps/Dies: WPlus9 Freehand Florals; PTI Get Lost. Inks: Altenew Frayed Leaf, Forest Glades, Evergreen; PTI Pale Peony, Sweet Blush, Lovely Lady, Autumn Rose, Scarlet Jewel, Raspberry Fizz, Hibiscus Burst, Pure Poppy, Limeade Ice, Smokey Shadow
I was happy to finally get to play with flowers after months and months of Christmas projects, not that I don't like Christmas. Just needed some freshness and happy in my day.

CAS(E) this sketch! birthday snowflakes

It's beginning to become a habit; I'm posting in the last moments, again, for the current CAS(E) this sketch challenge. I love this Leigh Penner sketch ...

but I just kind of lost my will to live after the rush and excitement of Christmas and New Years's. Maybe it was the combination of too much food, pj's and Netflix that did me in. In any case, I can kind of/sort of feel normal coming back and along with it my joy for making cards. But it's not 100% yet, so don't get your expectations too high. :) I managed to come up with this ...

Paper: PTI Stamper's Select White. Stamps/Dies: PTI Fab Flakes, Winter Hills; Lawn Fawn Stitched Hillside Borders; L'il Inkers Stitched Rectangles. Inks: PTI Sweet Blush, Smokey Shadow.
I kind of like that this set is transitional - I'm not quite ready to stamp flowers yet, but almost. Besides, we have loads of winter birthdays in our family. Thanks for looking!
