Papertrey Ink Blog Hop January 2016

Hi, everyone, it's January 25th, time for the first Papertrey Ink Blog Hop of the year. Oh my goodness, I love Nichole's inspiration photo for this month, which features the work of collage artist Rex Ray ...

I didn't know of him, but somehow this work seemed familiar ... tell me, did anyone else immediately think of surf boards or is it just me? I was primarily inspired by the colours of this piece. The minute I saw them I knew that I wanted to try to make a Christmas card (for multiple reasons, not the least of which was because I scrambled last year to get cards out in time!). But I also had other things in mind.

I first made a little four-card (I know! I need to make more, and will, but I kinda ran out of time) note set (4-1/4"x3-1/2").

They were so much fun to make! Everything I used is from PTI: Brushed Blooms, Petite Pots (their Anniversary set for 2015 which I absolutely adore - so easy to use and so versatile)l and Fresh Floral Wrap Ups. The little butterfly on the last card is from Beautiful Butterflies, and I fussy cut it!! Me!! Each cards has elements that are stamped directly onto the card front, then some popped-up die cuts, and then one double-popped-up cut. I am so left brained that everything ALWAYS has to be even-steven and pretty symmetrical too. No masking, oviously, was done on these notes, just simple, sweet and easy :) And because masking is just too darn difficult.

And then I made a Christmas card. I knew I was going to use Peaceful Pinecones but I have no idea where the Stickles came from!! Me!! Using Stickles!! On something other than Ruldolph's nose!!

In real life, the background is all glittery and very pretty. I layered an oval mat over my card front and ink blended Hawaiian Shores ink, added the Stickles, let it dry and layered on the pinecone cuts. I finished with a Keep It Simple: Merry Christmas sentiment.

Ink Colours

All PTI: Smokey Shadow, Hawaiian Shores, Aqua Mist, Tropical Teal, Simply Chartreuse, Terracotta Tile, Canyon Clay, Summer Sunrise, Orange Zest, Dark Chocolate

Valentine Matchbook

I'm playing along with Papertrey Ink's Make It Monday challenge, where Lexi Daly is showing us how to make darling little matchbook Valentines. It doesn't get any sweeter than this, folks! Here are some of the cuties that she made ...

I made up a little sample matchbook that I'll be duplicating for my four grandsons. My mission is to always make them the most glittery, girly Valentines possible :) That's just the way I operate and they get me (thankfully). I haven't decided what I'm putting in mine yet, but here it is ...

Pretty much everything is PTI, except the glitter and Glossy Accents. I used Keep It Simple: Valentines stamps, One Big Happy stamps and dies (such a fab freebie from PTI) and Limitless Layers: Heart Stitches dies. Cardstock: Sweet Blush, Lovely Lady, Pure Poppy and Vintage Cream.
Ink: Smokey Shadow, Lovely Lady, Pure Poppy, Simply Chartreuse.

Sugary Sweet

I'm playing along with Papertrey Ink's Create Along With Us challenge this month. It was just too tempting not to, what with all the beautiful butterflies and watercoloured flowers that we saw during release week. I made two (and a half cards) ...

The first one I made was influenced by the new Bold Blossoms watercolour paper and stamp set ...

I loved how Ashley coloured the paper, here. I was going for a sugary sweet look and coloured in my stamped Beautiful Brushstrokes images (Versafine Onyx Black) with a waterbrush and PTI reinkers (Lemon Tart, Aqua Mist and Lovely Lady, which I'm completely in love with as you will see on every single card I make from now on!). I finished off with a die cut xoxo (Lawn Fawn), cut from the same watercolour paper I used (Canson XL) and placed it on a strip of True Black card. The finished card front was mounted on a Lovely Lady card base.

My next card(s) was inspired by Nichole's gorgeous card using the new Butterfly Cover Plate, here (her first card on this day).  I love the way she shortened her card front to free her butterflies! I pulled out my Beautiful Butterflies, and Beautiful Butterflies Layers, sets and dies and came up with this ...

PTI Stamper's Select White, Lovely Lady card; Brushed Blooms sentiment; Hawaiian Shores, Raspberry Fizz, Lovely Lady, Pure Poppy, Stormy Seas, Summer Sunrise, Terracotta Tile inks; Altenew Midnight Violet ink

When I finished stamping the panel I thought the butterflies were too dark, so I made another panel ...

PTI Stamper's Select White; Nostalgic Notions sentiment; Hawaiian Shores, Raspberry Fizz, Lovely Lady, Pure Poppy, Vintage Jadeite, Stormy Seas inks; Altenew Midnight Violet ink; washi tape

(I was really just enjoying playing around with my new inks - Stormy Seas, Jadeite and Lovely Lady). In the end, I decided I liked all the butterflies and made two cards with my stamped pieces.
