Papertrey Ink Make It Monday #195: 2014 À La Carte

This week over at Nichole Heady's Papertrey Ink blog we have our choice of any of the 50 techniques that were demonstrated in this year's Make It Monday videos. I decided to choose one that I had missed ...

Make It Monday #185: Faux Stained Glass
with Betsy Veldman

Since 2014 was the year of the shaker card, I decided to make one more in honour of Betsy's incredible Make It Market Kits - a new one of which is being revealed tomorrow; cannot wait!

Despite the fact that I had problems stamping the Doodlie-Do images because my Staz-On ink pad hasn't been used in about five years and it's pretty much all dried out, I really like how this card turned out. Even though I am not even a good Copic colourer, it doesn't much matter when you're colouring on acetate because there aren't a lot of opportunities for shading.
One of the sentiments from Doodlie-Do was stamped repeatedly on the shaker's background layer, just like Betsy did with her card. It adds fantastic dimension in real life. I forgot to take a photo, but the inside of this card is stamped with one of the "feel better soon" sentiments from Keep It Simple: Get Well.

Supplies:

Cardstock: PTI Rustic White, Clear Cardstock
Stamps: PTI Doodlie-Do, Keep It Simple: Get Well, Songbirds
Ink: PTI Smokey Shadow; Staz-On; Fresh Ink Blue Sage
Dies: PTI Songbirds, Make It Market Shakers & Sprinkles Kit
Other:  Copics, Martha Stewart Fine Glitter

Papertrey Ink Make It Monday #192: Tab Closure Tri-fold Card

I had a very unusual day yesterday, to say the least. Thieves are now sending me unwanted Christmas gifts. To make a very long and tedious story short, my credit card was compromised (locally) and the very "brilliant" hacker had one (an LCD monitor) of his many online purchases delivered to my house! Let's just say that UPS has some serious flaws in its policies that allow people to change delivery addresses; and that online merchants need to be more careful about letting customers change recipient names to ones that don't match the confirmed credit card address.

Anyway, it's Betsy Veldman up over at the Papertrey Ink blog for this week's Make it Monday. She demonstrates a fun, and useful, technique and her inspiration was inspiring ...

Isn't it gorgeous? Just like everything that Betsy makes! I decided, after my verrrry interesting day yesterday, to treat myself to some "me" time and join in. I needed a card/money holder for the concierge in our building, so I created a little "packaging" ...

I used a Limitless Layers 1-3/4" inch circle die for my tab which I embellished with some Holly Jolly leaves cut from felt and topped with a red sequin. I dry embossed the lower half of my card with an old Basic Grey embossing folder that I don't think I've ever used before. The star of the show is definitely that Double Cut Holiday word Noël. The base of it was cut from Rustic Cream card and the detailed topper uses some gorgeous red foiled cardstock that a friend sent to me (thanks Linda!). A strip of washi tape on the bottom of the card finishes the front off nicely. And since I'm a firm believer that you can never have too much cute packaging, the inside of this card features a pocket for the cash ...

The pocket was made with PTI's Journal Pocket #2 die (love) and a sweet bow from Betsy's Tinsel & Tags die set adds that little extra touch.

Tag You're It Challenge #12

The current challenge over at Tag You're It is a Christmas one, based on this tag from Tracey McNeely ...

I was influenced by her song lyric, and die cuts, and came up with this ...

This simple (easy-to-make) little tag makes me very happy. It's being reserved for a hostess gift for my DIL ...

She is hosting Christmas Day dinner at her house this year for the first time. Which is a good thing, because I am not the world's best cook :). I'm still having the family over for a special dinner, wouldn't be Christmas without that, but it's going to be on Sunday night, the 21st. Can't believe how fast it's coming and how soon it will be over. I still have tons to do, but the gift shopping is pretty much done.

Supplies:

Cardstock: PTI Stamper's Select White, Pure Poppy, Sweet Blush
Stamps: PTI Songbirds, Bells & Boughs
Inks: PTI Ripe Avocado, Smokey Shadow
Dies: PTI Songbirds, Tag Sale #10
Other: May Arts metallic string

Merry & Bright

So much to do, so little time! I know I'm not the only one saying this (over and over) at this time of the year but it's a fact. But I love the hustle and bustle and wouldn't change a thing. I've managed to make and mail out all of my Christmas cards (yay), thanks to making them throughout the year. And I took a little bit of time for myself yesterday to make this card which I'm posting in two challenges.

Over at CAS(E) This Sketch #102, Gayatri Murali provided this week's sketch ...

and I'm also entering into the challenge over at Merry Monday #138, where this week's assignment is to make a Christmas card using gold, silver, white and one other colour of your choice (I chose Enchanted Evening from PTI).

My card ...

A shaker card that should have been very easy to make because I wasn't dealing with a fiddly narrow frame, except that I forgot to put in an acetate window on my first attempt (duh!) and made a total mess when I shook it to see how the sequins and glitter looked all mixed up together :).

Supplies:

Cardstock: PTI Stamper's Select White, Enchanted Evening
Stamps: PTI Grand Ampersand
Ink: PTI Smokey Shadow
Dies: PTI Sketched Stars, Small Sketched Stars, Cover Plate: Stripes Diagonal; Lil Inkers Starry Sky, Stitched Rectangles
Other: American Crafts Pow glitter paper; Martha Stewart glitter; sequins
